COVID-19 Resources for the creative community

As public life resumes, Nevada County Arts Council remains hard at work to share the most current news and resources for our creative community and our community at large. Whether you are looking for comfort, inspiration or practical guidance, we are here to help. We continue to encourage creativity in the virtual sphere in order to serve those who remain home-bound, whether through choice or by necessity, and we encourage our creative sector to take advantage of these frequently updated resources.

Creative Sector leaders of arts organizations and creative businesses meet every other Tuesday at 5:30pm by Zoom to share best practices and exchange vital information to help us better serve our communities. EXTENTED! California Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Program - Round 8 will see an allocation of $16m to Arts & Culture CA Nonprofits only. EMERGENCY FUNDING FOR INDIVIDUALS

Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant Program - This program has no deadlines and grants are typically $5,000-$15,000. The Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Emergency Grant program is intended to provide interim financial assistance to qualified painters, printmakers, and sculptors whose needs are the result of an unforeseen, catastrophic incident, and who lack the resources to meet that situation. Each grant is given as one-time assistance for a specific emergency, examples of which are fire, flood, or emergency medical need. To be eligible for this program, an artist must be able to demonstrate a minimum involvement of ten years in a mature phase of his or her work. Artists must work in the disciplines of painting, sculpture or printmaking.

American Society of Journalists and Authors - Writers Emergency Assistance Fund - Coronavirus-related WEAF funds are only available to those who cannot work because they are currently ill or caring for someone who is ill. Funds are not available to those who have lost work because publishers and/or clients are no longer assigning due of the pandemic. All other guidelines outlined below still apply. Applicants need not be members of the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA), but must have credentials that would qualify them for ASJA membership

Artist Relief - Applications open March 8 to June 23. Distribute $5,000 grants to artists facing dire financial emergencies due to COVID-19. To support artists during the COVID-19 crisis, a coalition of national arts grantmakers have come together to create an emergency initiative to offer financial and informational resources to artists across the United States.

Behind the Scenes - Provides financial assistance to entertainment technology professionals in the U.S. and Candada in need due to serious illness or injury.

Broadcasters Foundation of America - Emergency & Disaster Grant - The Broadcasters Foundation of America provides Emergency & Disaster Grants to radio and television broadcasters who find themselves in acute financial need and do not have insurance

The Actors Fund - Free and confidential assistance nationally to everyone who works in performing arts and entertainment.

Arts Administrators of Color Network Arts and Culture Leaders of Color Emergency Fund - Up to $200 to help those pursuing careers as artists or arts administrators whose income has been directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Author's League Fund - Helps professional authors, journalists, poets, and dramatists who find themselves in financial need because of medical or health-related problems, temporary loss of income, or other misfortune.

CERF+ Emergency Assistance - Supporting intensive care, focused on those infected with the COVID-19 that require intensive medical care.

Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grants for Visual and Performing Artists - Urgent funding for visual and performing artists who incur unexpected or unbudgeted expenses for projects close to completion with committed exhibition or performance dates.

MusiCares - Short-term financial assistance for musicians’ personal needs that have arisen due to unforeseen circumstances. 

Musicians Foundation - Financial assistance to professionals in the music industry. Applications closed on May 7th and will reopen when current applications have been reviewed.

PEN America Writer's Emergency Fund - Small grants for professional writers in acute or unexpected financial crisis.

We know that Nevada County is unique in California as the only rural county home to two state-designated California Cultural Districts – Grass Valley-Nevada City Cultural District and Truckee Cultural District, and that creativity in our mountain home extends beyond these districts to every corner of our county. At Nevada County Arts Council, we would like make sure it stays this way. From an economic perspective alone, we know that our creative sector is a $46m industry. When we come through this crisis, we want our creative sector ready and in good shape to help drive our economy. To help us achieve this, we believe that each community member has a role to play in carrying the torch for for the arts!
