November is Arts & Health Month

Grass Valley-Nevada City and Truckee Cultural Districts, CA—November, 2, 2026: Nevada County Arts & Culture, Grass Valley-Nevada City and Truckee Cultural Districts, in partnership with California for the Arts invites the community to celebrate November as Arts & Health Month. This is an international effort to recognize the healing power of the arts for individuals and communities and was first launched in November 2010 by the former Society for the Arts in Healthcare, now known as the National Organization for Arts in Health (NOAH).

This initiative was created to celebrate and increase momentum for the growing field of arts and health around the world. By 2015, organizations and leaders in Canada, Australia, Ireland, the UK, and more, were participating and discussing ways to expand it internationally. Building on this legacy, California for the Arts (CA for the Arts) revived this awareness campaign and inspires people throughout California and beyond to celebrate Arts & Health Month through meaningful action.

Through its work in Nevada County and the upstate region, Nevada County Arts & Culture recognizes the arts as a powerful tool to enhance the health and well-being of our communities. As part of Culture Forward–Nevada County’s six-year Arts and Culture Action Plan–the county arts services agency is committed to mobilizing artists, culture bearers, creative workers, and community-centered arts and culture organizations alongside partners in health, education, government, and other sectors to advance public policies that position arts and culture as drivers of community health and economic development. Achieving this vision requires grassroots participation from people across every community.

Arts & Health Month is an opportunity for everyone to celebrate, educate, and champion the role of arts in health and well-being. Throughout November, community members, artists, healthcare professionals, organizations, educators, advocates, and others are invited to participate in activities that raise awareness, build connections, and inspire action.

Join Nevada County Arts & Culture staff on Tuesday, November 10 at 6pm at Grass Valley City Hall when the City of Grass Valley will proclaim November as Arts & Health month. Throughout November Nevada County Arts & Culture will share stories and resources about the healing power of the arts and ways to become involved with the creative community. Share your Arts & Health journey with the hashtag #NevCoArtsHealth.
