Local Cultural Districts Lose State Funding

Efforts to persuade Governor Newsom to continue state funding for California Cultural Districts for the new fiscal year were unsuccessful. That includes 400-thousand dollars for Nevada County, the only county with two cultural districts, one for Grass Valley and Nevada City and the other for Truckee. The program manager for the Grass Valley-Nevada City district, Diana Arbex, says conservative budgeting will allow activities and programs to not be impacted much this year. But she says there is no new funding cycle for their mini-grants program. Their guide for local arts and culture will also continue for the time being. But there is much uncertainty for future years. So the Nevada County Arts Council will continue its Resilience Fund campaign this summer…
