Since Grass Valley-Nevada City Cultural District and Truckee Cultural District were inaugurated seven years ago, we have asked ourselves how public-private partnerships might best serve our citizens.

Across our California Cultural Districts revitalization efforts are well underway, making our townships more walkable with trails, new park access, and the promise of art installations.

In 2017, the Nevada City Rancheria Nisenan Tribe launched a new program called Visibility Through Art that would pave the way to a campaign culminating in 2024 with the purchase of a sweeping stretch of land—the site of an ancestral Nisenan village named Yulića.

“The Underground House” is one of several creative housing projects coming through Nevada County’s Building Department, and is an example of what the future of sustainable housing could look like.

What does a library look like in a town that values art, culture, and community? The answer is taking shape as the Friends of the Truckee Library LibraryUP campaign gathers community input and works with stakeholders to create a new library that truly belongs to local residents.
