Each year, we encourage schools across the county to participate the Student Voices Campaign. In California, the Local Control Funding Formula, guarantees students a voice in planning and budgeting for their school district.  The Student Voices Campaign is a creative way for young people to make their voices heard through creating short videos of no more than two minutes in length. In 2016, thanks to our advocacy, the California State First Prize went to Nevada County student, Aiden Conley, of Bear River High School. You can enjoy Aiden’s 2-minute video, below.

HOW TO ENTER the 2020-21 campaign!

All students in Nevada County deserve to have the arts! A quality arts education leads to success in college, career, and life (it’s true – there’s tons of research to back it up!). Yet some students – maybe you? – experience barriers to access, participation, and success in arts learning. There are real inequities in our educational system, but YOU can help change that. By entering the Student Voices Campaign, you are making YOUR VOICE heard in YOUR SCHOOL!

Make your voice heard! Here’s how:

  • Watch the Student Voices Campaign intro video here

  • CREATE a short video or art piece (2 minutes or less) that shows a meaningful, compelling story of why the arts matter to you, someone you know, and/or to the school or community. Be sure to review our judging criteria and rules.

  • BRAINSTORM How is your story linked to the Declaration of Student Rights? Perhaps one particular right is most urgent for you. You can show this in your piece, or address it in your message.

  • WRITE a brief advocacy message to go along with your piece to your district, asking your school board to adopt the Declaration to support arts education for all students.

  • SUBMIT your artwork and message here and we’ll send it directly to your district leaders!

  • LEARN what else you can do to create change in your district.

DEADLINE TO ENTER: FEBRURARY 22, 2021 at 11:59pm

First, second, and third place winning pieces will be selected and recognized at a special event, where they will be screened in front of a statewide audience!
