GVNC: What is your medium?

Biery: Creating events that highlight the many unique qualities of our community, especially cultural tourism and the arts.

GVNC: At what point in your life did you realize your calling?

Biery: Since I was a teenager, I have embraced the opportunity to bring people together to support individuals, places, and organizations for good.

GVNC: Tell us about your creative process.

Biery: My creative process often begins with recognizing a need—an opportunity to create something that enriches people’s lives while also deepening awareness of our natural resources. I’m drawn to projects that support the arts and local businesses, because I see them as vital to a community’s cultural health and economic resilience.

By blending my appreciation for the arts with a commitment to conservation, I strive to create experiences that inspire, educate, and contribute to long-term economic vitality. This connection between creativity, stewardship, and community well-being has been central to my work in public relations and continues to shape the projects I pursue.

GVNC: What inspires you?

Biery: I’m inspired by the beauty of the natural world, the quiet kindness people show one another, and the unwavering dedication of those working for the greater social good. These forces remind me of what’s possible when compassion and purpose guide our actions.

GVNC: What are you most proud of?

Biery: I’m most proud of my ability to envision a positive path forward for a project and then bring that vision to life—often through thoughtful collaboration with others. I’m equally proud of the beloved family and friends who anchor and inspire me; their presence is one of my greatest achievements and joys.

GVNC: What do you love best about our creative community?

Biery: What I love most about our creative community is its extraordinary range of talent and the optimism that fuels it. There’s a shared willingness to imagine big, pursue creative dreams, and help one another realize our full potential. That collective spirit is both inspiring and energizing.

GVNC: Name two Nevada county artists you admire and why.

Biery: Only two? That's hard! I have had the great pleasure of knowing and working with fine press printer Judith Berliner for nearly four decades. She has become one of the most widely recognized fine press women in America, and her dedication to craft continues to inspire me.

I haven’t met Sarah Coleman, but her collaborative work with Miles Toland—transforming both the Onyx and the Nevada Theatre with extraordinary murals—has left a lasting impression on me. I’m grateful for her vision, talent, and the sheer determination it takes to complete such large-scale, life-enhancing projects.

So much beauty! Grateful to these and many other artists.

GVNC: Tell us more about what events are coming up for you?

Biery: I’ve just completed the first draft of a script for a short documentary that tells the story of the Famous Marching Presidents, a beloved nonprofit organization at the heart of Nevada City’s Constitution Day Parade. Founded in 1967, this parade is the longest-running event of its kind in the United States.

The Famous Marching Presidents bring an irreverent, good-natured, and proudly non-partisan spirit to the celebration of the Constitution. They’ll celebrate their 40th anniversary in 2027, and this documentary aims to honor their history, humor, and enduring place in our community’s cultural life.
