At the heart of this renaissance is a clear mission: to keep handcrafted art visible, valued, and thriving within Nevada County. That commitment is perhaps most evident in the Guild’s signature fundraiser, Winterfaire. Once modest in scale, the show has evolved into a highly anticipated handcrafted-art-only event, with vendor booths selling out quickly and attracting shoppers seeking original, high-quality work created by regional artists.

Community outreach has been equally central to the Guild’s growth. Last year, the Sierra Gold Community Senior Center became the Guild’s community service project for the year. Members donated and installed a STAS picture-hanging system to create a permanent gallery wall and began providing rotating displays of original artwork. In addition, the Guild launched monthly arts and crafts classes at the center, introducing a new medium each month—from acrylic painting and clay to beadwork and quilling. Seniors participate for just $5 per class, with all materials supplied by the Guild. The partnership continues today, along with an annual holiday art show offering original artwork for meaningful gift giving.

For its members, the Guild has revitalized an active workshop program featuring pyrography, jewelry wire wrapping, acrylic pouring, clay, and glass flameworking—most offered at little to no cost. Guest speakers at monthly meetings further enrich professional development and creative exchange.

Looking ahead, the Guild continues to expand its presence in the community. In addition to Winterfaire, members will collaborate with the American Legion on a June show and host intimate pop-up exhibits featuring monthly artists at a local winery.

What began as a small, struggling organization has become a dynamic community asset—supporting working artists while ensuring that fine handcrafted art remains a vibrant and essential part of Nevada County’s cultural landscape.
